Jean-Luc Bernard
Retired since February 1, 2011 as director of education and secretary-treasurer of the Viamonde School Board (Central-Sud-West District School Board). He held this position from 2002 to 2011.
During his 33-year career in education, he held various positions: teacher, educational consultant, education officer with the Ontario Ministry of Education, superintendent of education and director of education. He had the privilege of working for the Catholic system and the public system.
He co-chaired several expert committees for the ministry in areas such as early childhood, curriculum, child care, special education, post-secondary education and French-language education. Jean-Luc was a member of the board of directors of the Ontario College of Teachers from 2012-2019, while sitting on various committees such as the Center francophone du Grand Toronto Active Retirement of Peel .
From 2019 to 2021, Jean-Luc works as executive director for the University of French Ontario. He supervises operational administrative files. From January to April 2022, he returned to the Viamonde School Board as Interim Director of Education.
During his long time at the Viamonde School Board, Jean-Luc was responsible for supervising several elementary and secondary school construction projects. For several years, certain renovation projects took place annually. The establishment of the Council's capital expenditure priorities was prioritized with the political table and government authorities. During his time at the University of French Ontario, he worked on the design and construction of the campus. This period allowed him to work closely with several subcontractors, consultants and a UOF subcommittee responsible for the project to deliver the campus on budget and on schedule.
Jean-Luc continues his involvement in the field of education as a consultant. He has been a trainer since 2009 for the additional qualifications course leading to the supervisory agent qualification (PQAS) for AGÉFO (Association of Franco-Ontarian Education Managers). For several years, he has also acted as a mentor for new managers appointed to a school board.
